In line with the Aspen Group’s stated intention to expand into Asia Pacific markets, a business unit was officially launched in the Philippines in March 2012.

In January 2012, Aspen Philippines began operating with 4 staff members, but within 3 months the staff complement had increased to 100 Filipinos.

Aspen is the first South African-based company to expand into the Philippines. As the world’s ninth largest generic pharmaceutical company (EvaluatePhama World Preview – June 2012), Aspen’s presence in the Philippines signifies its support and alignment with government and local regulatory authorities to provide access to high quality medicines while also creating employment opportunities for more Filipinos.

Quality products for the Philippines

Aspen’s range of products will initially provide healthcare professionals with quality generic and branded pharmaceutical products for five therapeutic categories namely antibiotic, anti-hypertension, anti-gout, anti-platelet and anti-hypothyroidism.

Aspen Philippines will import its products from the Group’s world-class manufacturing facilities in Port Elizabeth, South Africa as well as from Germany and Italy. Reputable local manufacturers in the Philippines will also supply certain products. 

Aspen’s Asia Pacific expansion

The Asia Pacific territory offers numerous expansion prospects for Aspen, which aims to leverage off its exceptional success in Australia to further bolster its growth in the region. 

Aspen Australia, established in May 2001, has become a leading pharmaceutical company in that country and presently one out of seven prescriptions written in Australia is for an Aspen product. Given its success attained in that country, Aspen will be using Aspen Australia as a springboard to broaden its Asian presence by introducing additional branded and generic products into this densely populated, high growth region in the near future. Further opportunities are also being explored in the region with particular focus on Thailand and Malaysia.
